The humble Memorial of
Malachy Postlethwayt Esq:r an Englishman
Sheweth
That Your Memorialist after many
Years great Expence and Trouble, hath happily discover'd
the Art, Method et Mistery of Casting Iron from the
Iron Stone or Ore, more pure, more tough, & more approach-
ing the Purity, Toughness & Malleability of Forged-
Bar Iron itself, than to the Knowlege of Your
Memorialist was ever done in any Nation before.
And Your Memorialist humbly presumes, that by
the means of this his new Invention & Discovery, that Iron-
Cannon, Artillery & Cast-Iron Ordnance of every Kind
may be made in Your Majesty's Dominions of a Quality
far superior to those of any other Nation in the World.
Your Memorialist further humbly apprehends
that this superior Quality of Sweedish-Iron-Ordnance in
general, will naturally induce all other Princes, States &
Potentates in Europe, & their Trading Subjects to give the
Preference to, & become constant Purchasers of this new
Species of Sweedish-Cast-Iron Ordnance, in Order to be
upon an Equality with each other in Point of Strenght in their
in general.
respective Armies & Navies.
In consequence here of Your Memorialist further hum-
bly conceives, that this new Manufacture of Iron Ordnance
will not only employ great number of Your Majesty's Subjects
& thereby draw annually great Treasures into Your Domi-
nions, from the most opulent Nations in Europe, but will give
such superior Credit & reputation to the Sweedish-Cast-Iron
