Anton Svab' travelogue from Saxony and Hungary (1792)

Anton Swab (1763–1809) enrolled at Uppsala University in 1776. Like his father and other relatives, he devoted his career to the Swedish mining sector and earned his degree in 1780 with a dissertation on mining in Sweden. He quickly advanced within the Swedish Bureau of Mines: auscultant in 1779, vice notary in 1783, underground surveyor in 1784, geschworner in 1787, and was formally appointed mining inspector (bergmästare) in Falun in 1794 after receiving the title in 1793. In 1808, he became an adjunct member of the Bureau and was promoted to assessor in 1809.

In 1792, with government funding, Swab undertook a study trip to the mines of Saxony and Hungary, which formed the basis for this travel report. He was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1793.
