On the 7 December 2022, Måns Jansson and Jacob Orrje from the project visited the Gender and Work Seminar at the Department of History at Uppsala University. There, we presented our ongoing work on digitizing the foreign travelogues of the Bureau of Mines, and discussed the historiographical issues raised by working digitally with this kind of early modern state-administrative sources.
On 30 November – 1 December, Jacob Orrje was invited to the workshop "Technik or Technologie? European Circulation of Bélidor’s, Wolff’s and Gessner’s Technological Works" at Université Paris City.
On 27–28 October 2022, Jacob Orrje participated as introductory lecturer at a digital-history workshop at Umeå University.
In August 2022, Jacob Orrje from the project attended the session "Min(d)ing New Connections: How to Approach Letters and Handwritten Relations as Big Data?"
During spring term 2022, we presented our plans for the project at the Department of History of Science and Ideas and Department of Economic History at Uppsala University.
On Monday 16 May, from 10.15 am to 4 pm, the project "Mapping the geographies of early modern mining knowledge. A digital history of the study tours of the Swedish Bureau of Mines, 1691–1826" is hosting a workshop on the transcription of early modern Swedish manuscripts using automatic handwriting recognition (HTR).
On the 16 May, we met up with Catarina Karlsson at Jernkontoret (the Swedish iron and steel producers' association) to present our project at discuss how it aligned with their work on mining and metal history.
